If you have SUPPORT with 10-12 HCPs you bid 3

If you have SUPPORT with 13+ HCPs we will find out what to do later

Partner opens 1.

We cannot support immediately but we do have four Spades. We should bid 1.

If partner rebids 2 or 2 we will now know that they have at least five Hearts. At that point we can support their Hearts.

Partner opens 1.

We cannot support immediately. We cannot bid 1.

The correct bid is 1NT. This shows 6-9 HCPs and denies four Hearts or four Spades.

It is known as “The Dustbin Bid”
